Ithaca Asian American Association was first founded in 1997 as the Ithaca Area Asian Association. It was then reconstituted to the Ithaca Asian American Association in 2003, as a local civic and social not-for-profit organization, committed to the education and celebration of Asian American heritage and culture.
Some of our demonstrated projects include a documentary of Asians in Tompkins County, Spilled Soy Milk; Lunar New Year Celebration (February); Asian American Heritage Month Celebration (May) and Upstate New York's first dragon boat program that have successfully hosted The Finger Lakes International Dragon Boat Festival for over a decade.
Tompkins County has a population of 100,000 residents, 10% of which are people of Asian descent.
With Cornell University and Ithaca College located in Ithaca, NY, the City's Asian population is sizable (17%) for a small city of 30,000 residents.
Since the arrival of COVID-19, many Asians and Asian Americans are being racially attacked, assaulted, discriminated and profiled. The elevated cases of hate crimes, locally and nationally, against people of Asian descent, has got to stop!!
